As we all must have used one time or another, the very user-friendly and top productivity app CamScanner. Recently, a malicious loophole was detected in the firmware of the app which was displaying interfering ads on the Android platform. If you have still not uninstalled the app and were unaware of the fiasco, you must remove it from your device now. Google removed the app from Play Store right then and there. This is recommended just to keep you on the precautionary side.
As the app had embossed itself upon us by its feature, we all are in search of an app that is able to serve the purpose if not all the features that CamScanner was providing. Here, we are trying to compile some alternatives that are trusted by the users and are serving the purpose. We also cross-checked the developers’ profiles and found out that all are genuine ones.
Some of these apps also don’t put their watermark on the final output as the CamScanner, so that’s a plus. That’s enough making the hype, now let’s get right into the list.
1. Adobe Scan
Looking for an alternative? Who else can provide the best other than Adobe? The app is clustered with features and the core developer is Adobe itself. The scanner comes with many smart features such as distinguishing between ID card, document, receipt, notes, or any paper for that matter. Along with scanning and giving the best result, the app smartly crops the excess material and if you will allow it will save only that part.
Some pros: Adobe Scan supports OCR, which allows an easy transfer of text documents into PDF. it also doesn’t add the watermark.
2. Microsoft Office Lens
If you are already a Microsoft user and use a range of its products, then this app is the best alternative for you. It works more fluently within the eco-system. This app provides you the options to not only scan the documents but also hand-written notes and diagrams. The best feature is that you can directly transfer the scanned files into MS Word or Powerpoint files. Along with these top-of-the-line features, all the standard features come with it such as auto edge detection, crop, OCR, etc.
Some pros: Syncs easily with OneNote. Office Lens also doesn’t put any annoying watermark and easy export the files in JPEG or PDF format.
3. ScanBot
This is already a very popular app to scan the documents and creating PDFs out of it. This app is the replica of the CamScanner in actual terms. The edge detection, cropping, document identification, all are as good. It adds a feature of searching for a document by any word you remember from that particular document. This feature was badly missed by all of us on the CamScanner. The developers also integrated the app with many cloud service providers, so if you want to store your files on cloud, you can definitely opt for that at a cost.
Some pros: ScanBot also features the batch mode of CamScanner and the OCR feature. The only downside is it’s a bit expensive if you are willing to opt for premium version.
4. Google Drive
For many of us, this comes as a surprise. This is for those people who are just in the search of a simple scanner, nothing fancy of any sort. Hit the plus button the app and start scanning. The most important plus point about the scanner in-built in Google Drive is that we know our data is in safer hands for sure. After scanning, it lets you edit directly in an in-built editor where you can make the corrections you want.
Some pros: The biggest feature is it’s Google-owned and provides a simpler user interface.
5. TapScanner
The most powerful of all. It takes 3 pictures and then gives you a detailed result in the form of a crisp shot. Then, it takes you to an editor where you can edit it according to you and then finally export. The feature which sets it apart is that it provides you the option to digitally sign the documents, the feature even CamScanner didn’t provide.
Some pros: This scanner provides a ton of filters from which you can choose from. The only drawback is as it’s a powerful app, it may run a bit slow on your device.
